TAFE SA’s international students have worked with a local winemaker to create and bottle their Barossa Valley Shiraz.
Hyeon Cheol Cho, MinHua Yu, Renjie Peng and Jessica Young have created 300, from their own vintage as part of their studies in the Diploma of Food and Wine Management.
Sourced from vines grown on hard sandy red loam over clay on the gently sloping alluvial plain of the Nuriootpa Viticultural Research Centre, 300 is the total bottled production of this poised, bright, full-bodied and structured Barossa Valley Shiraz.
The students, who have travelled to the Barossa Valley to broaden their knowledge in wine and food, have been involved in each step of the wine making process including grape picking, crushing, bottling and marketing of their own wine.
International student MinHua Yu from China said she chose to study with TAFE SA as she was confident it would further her career.
“The Diploma has given me the skills, practical knowledge and connections to gain employment in the wine industry,” said MinHua Yu.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to study wine and food while living in the Barossa Valley, which is one of the most famously recognised wine regions in my country.”
“I have enjoyed every part of the experience- the whole process of making wine from picking the grapes, the actual making of the wine and then bottling our very own wine. The creation of designing our own label to fit the wine was a big highlight.”
The only course of its kind in Australia, the Diploma is a comprehensive program developed hand-in-hand with industry that prepares students with the skills and knowledge required for management and leadership roles in the food and wine industry. Applications are now open for 2014.
